CD Projekt has settled class action lawsuit originally filed by investors in 2021 Cyberpunk 2077.
Negotiations began in late 2021, with CD Projekt reaching an agreement this week to pay investors $1.85 million (thanks to Law 360 from PCgamesN).
Investors filed a lawsuit against the company two years ago, alleging that it misrepresented the state of Cyberpunk 2077’s near-collapse on consoles for financial gain.
The first class-action lawsuit against CD Projekt occurred in January 2021, and three more class-action lawsuits were subsequently filed against the company, resulting in all lawsuits being consolidated by the courts. The suit says CDP “failed to disclose that Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on current-generation Xbox or Playstation systems due to numerous bugs.”
The lawsuit also cites Sony’s decision to pull the game from the PlayStation Store and Microsoft’s full refund policy as evidence that Cyberpunk 2077 isn’t ready yet.
Since its release, CDP has made good on its promise to fix the game by releasing numerous patches. Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold more than 20 million copies, and Netflix’s Cyberpunk Edgerunners show has helped a lot.
CDP’s Q3 2022 results attribute Cyberpunk 2077 to an increase in revenue. Last February, the company released a next-gen update, followed by an Edgerunners update in September. It brought further enhancements and improvements to the game, as well as additional content related to the anime, resulting in a large number of players playing the game – both veterans and newcomers.
