The folks at Indiegogo are putting crowdfunding products to the test in our new series of honest reviews. In this issue, our own Email Marketing and Lifecycle Strategist Karisa Hunt tries out PLAUD NOTE, the new AI voice recorder our crowdfunding community is talking about. Does it live up to the hype? Read on as we put it to the test!
With the rise of remote work, remote video calls have become part of daily life for many people. We’re completely remote at Indiegogo, so it’s definitely a part of my work life as well. I spend a good portion of meetings jotting down things to remember, so when I saw PLAUD NOTE claiming they could record, transcribe, and summarize meetings for me, I was definitely interested.
Unboxing
PLAUD NOTE The box is very small which is great news for me. If the box size is small, I don’t think the actual device is too big to handle comfortably.
The packaging is great, the device and all its components are neatly arranged and well protected. And, yes: the PLUD NOT is quite small for its capabilities, which is a huge win in my book.
set up
Setup is easy – literally, all you have to do is touch a button on your device, add it to your app, and you’re done. It’s as easy as pairing any Bluetooth, which is great. The PLAUD NOTE comes with a small case that snaps onto your phone, so installation takes about three seconds total.
The app is also very intuitive, and it comes preloaded with a few recordings with transcriptions and summaries to tell you how to use it. I think it’s really cool that they use their product to provide instructions on how to use it – it’s a nice, straightforward way to show that it actually works as it claims.
use
Now comes the real test: will it work as I hope?
In short: absolutely, absolutely yes.
Okay, maybe this is long, but the emphasis is necessary. PLAUD NOTE is able to record meetings happening around you (just like a video call on your computer), but it can also record phone calls with the flick of a switch and the touch of a button. The transcription was very, very fast and much more accurate than I expected. My initial test was just recording a conversation my sister and I had about video games, and it didn’t just spell Ori and the Will of the Wisps Yes, it knows it’s a title and capitalizes and italics it correctly. Summaries are provided as soon as the transcript is available and are accurate and to the point. It can even break down different parts of a conversation, giving you an overview of how it flows and what the point of each beat is.
The mind map is cool, too; it shows every beat of the meeting at a glance, but without the details, so you can immediately see what the main points are and then switch to summary view for more details.
in conclusion
PLAUD NOTE positions itself as a game changer, and I think that’s absolutely right. You no longer have to worry about missing something from a meeting, and minutes are easily available shortly after the meeting ends. I ended up giving PLAUD Notes as holiday gifts to a few family members, and they all reported to me that it made their daily work lives so much easier. PLAUD NOTE can really increase your productivity, and if you often attend a lot of meetings and need to know a lot of details, then I highly recommend picking one up for yourself.
