what you need to know
- The outstanding feature of Magic V2 is its hardware, which has an ultra-thin design, only 9.9 mm when folded.
- The device comes with a 7.92-inch internal screen and a 6.43-inch external screen, both of which support a smooth 120Hz refresh rate and offer impressive resolution.
- Powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and 16GB of RAM, the Magic V2 may not have the latest specs, but it offers solid performance.
- Priced at €1,999 in Europe and £1,700 in the UK, the Magic V2 is positioned at the high end of the foldable market, on par with the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
Honor’s ultra-thin Magic V2 took China by storm as the thinnest foldable phone, and now it’s crossing the border and landing in Europe.
The Huawei spinoff has only been in the foldable phone business for two years, but it’s killing it. In China, Honor has launched four book-style foldable phones so far, but in Europe we’ve only seen the Magic V and Magic Vs. Now, the Honor Magic V2 is the third foldable phone in the region.
The phone debuted in China in July 2023 and a few months later at the IFA trade show in Europe. However, confirmation of a release date is MIA, that is, for now.
According to Honor’s press release, the foldable phone will cost £1,700 / €1,999 in the UK and Europe for the 16GB/512GB model. You can choose from black vegan leather and phantom purple, with shipping expected to begin in February.
While the Magic V2 is pricier than its predecessor, it’s still an affordable option compared to foldable phone rivals like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Google Pixel Fold.
Magic V2 still holds the title of the thinnest and lightest foldable phone on the market, with a thickness of only 9.9 mm and a weight of only 231 grams. Honor uses sleeker, stronger proprietary steel and titanium hinges for a corrosion-resistant, lightweight and tough folding feature.
Honor claims its device can withstand up to 400,000 folds, twice as long as its competitors.
However, the Magic V2 doesn’t live up to the latest specs. Under the hood is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with 16GB of RAM. The camera is powerful with a 50MP main sensor, 50MP ultra-wide angle and 20MP telephoto sensor. Plus, there are two 16MP selfie cameras sandwiched between the screens instead of one.
Even though the phone is very thin, it comes with a large 5000mAh battery. Additionally, 66W wired charging is no slouch, although wireless charging isn’t present.
As usual, there are two monitors running. The main feature is a 7.92-inch foldable OLED with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. The external screen is a 6.43-inch OLED display with the same refresh rate as the internal screen.
While Honor entered the European market late with the Magic V2, the phone maker caught people’s attention with an additional launch: the Porsche Design Magic V2 RSR. This is an enhanced version inspired by the fast and furious world of motorsport.
There are no pricing details for the special edition yet, but you can expect a higher price tag.
