Barcelona-based upcycler and art studio Bel&Bel has unveiled an electric replica of Shotaro Kaneda’s iconic motorcycle from Katsuhiro Otomo’s classic cyberpunk manga Akira, turning a post-apocalyptic dream journey into a for reality. The all-electric model, inspired by dystopian comics set in a nightmarish future Tokyo, is now available to fans.
Bel&Bel is known for upcycling iconic vehicles into art and furniture, and its latest creation is an electric replica of a Goldfield bicycle that was custom-built from scratch.The prototype is modified based on Yamaha Majesty YP 250 scooter chassis and a Honda VFR 800 swing arm,have 250cc Yamaha engine drive the rear wheels and Front 1,000 W electric hub motor.
The limited production series is priced at €24,000 (approximately US$26,000) and includes a metal chassis with fiberglass and carbon fiber panels, a 72V/5,000W mid-drive motor, three power modes and reverse gear, and various performance specs such as a reported 520 Nm (383.5 lb.ft) of torque, six Accelerates from 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in seconds and has a top speed of 150 km/h (93.2 mph).
While there’s no mention of street-legal status, the design replicates the comic book original, complete with pop-up headlights, perimeter LED lighting, and a digital control panel.
Bel&Bel is currently completing two private commissions before beginning work on a limited series.Enthusiasts can protect their Kaneda bikes with a safety device €5,000 (~$5,399) Down payment, balance due during construction.
