If you’re the kind of person who constantly stares at Phil Spencer’s Twitter likes, firstly, consider picking up a new hobby, and secondly, you may have noticed that he’s inadvertently liked a few tweets about handheld gaming consoles on Twitter . Past a little bit. The latest of these was part of a small discussion about how Windows runs on the Asus ROG Ally, which ended with The Verge’s Tom Warren saying: “Sure, thank god Asus is trying to make it better, but Microsoft really needs to step in.”
In case it wasn’t clear, that’s the tweet Spencer liked. Also liked recently Tweet from Xbox Program Manager Monty Hernandez Shown playing Brotato on Logitech G Cloud via Game Pass and This is actually about the idea of the Xbox handheld becoming a reality.
So what does this all mean? There’s no concrete information yet, except that Phil Spencer might like a good handheld computer, and assuming he doesn’t, might need to be more wary of what people infer based on his relatively infrequent likes.
It’s also important to remember that making inferences about people from their Twitter likes is not an easy way to learn about their plans. For example, three of my own recent likes on Twitter were about Dealing with giants From the Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood, Very frustrated with where the world is.,and a The four-hour ice race pits Skoda Felicia drivers equipped with paintball guns against each other.
There is absolutely zero evidence that I am interested in doing anything that might be related to this stuff in the future.
The same applies to my fellow VG247s, some of whom have revealed to me that they’ve recently liked tweets about Final Fantasy VIII, and that the scenes in the 90s movie are arguably better than some of the scenes in modern Marvel movies, And a Valentine’s Day sale is about to begin for the dungeon crawler dating sim Boyfriend Dungeon.
Also, one of us wants Duolingo to sponsor the Eurovision Song Contest.
Given our tendency as a publication to be a bit sarcastic at times, who knows what the context of those likes is, so it’s probably best not to put too much faith in Phil’s likes right now, at least until there’s more evidence that it’s just him pressing Several social media buttons.
