The Vision Pro hit store shelves on February 2 and caused a stir upon launch, but there were also criticisms of its $3,500 price point – Apple was entering a brand-new product category: mixed reality.
It’s been a few weeks since the Vision Pro debuted, and early adopters have been using the AR/VR headset for a while. MacRumors discovered that some Reddit users who own Vision Pro claim they have experienced spontaneous cracks.

Vision Pro faces ‘self-destruction’ claims
The first Reddit reports of spontaneous cracks (meaning the Vision Pro didn’t take any hits to cause the defect) appeared three days after the Vision Pro was released.
“I have never used the Vision Pro outside of bed for the past 3 days, whenever I am not using it I always cover it with the soft case and the device has never fallen off or anything like that, I just noticed on Reddit User Wohinbistdu said: “Cracks appeared last night. I’m wondering what caused the crack, if it was a manufacturing defect. “
Since then, Vision Pro users have expressed similar concerns in several other posts.
Oddly enough, the cracks appear in the same place: from the top (hairline) to the bottom of the headset (nose bridge). It’s also worth noting that the Vision Pro has hairline cracks where its curves are most pronounced.
Engadget claims its Apple Vision Pro device also has a crack in the middle.
However, based on these reports (a small sample of Vision Pro’s customer base), it’s difficult to tell whether this issue is widespread.
4 of the more common issues among Reddit user complaints
In addition to spontaneous cracks, another common report we see on Reddit and Apple’s online support community is sound issues.
“Bought my device about 3 days ago and the sound is gone. For some reason the speaker strip stops working if charged overnight. I’ve read about this happening to a few people online.” Reddit user Unlucky-Print-1548, said.
You can find Reddit threads with similar issues here , here , here , here , and here , with many commenters expressing sympathy for the original poster. We also found that Reddit users frequently expressed frustration with eye tracking, poor low-light performance (where it’s more difficult to track your input), and glare issues.
Again, it’s hard to say whether these problems are widespread. However, these are the most common complaints we see among Reddit users who own Vision Pro.
Don’t let these reports sway your opinion of the Apple Vision Pro, though. After all, this is Apple’s first foray into mixed reality hardware, so first-generation quirks are to be expected. As we mentioned in our review roundup, many people praise the Vision Pro as the best head-mounted display on the market.
