X, Elon Musk’s social media platform formerly known as Twitter, will launch audio and video calling for regular, non-premium users. This isn’t a feature people have been craving for, but hey…it’s coming anyway.
Previously, audio and video calling on the X were only available to paid premium users.
X engineer and CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed the news in a post on the website. To be clear, though, it’s obviously not available to everyone yet. Engineer Enrique Barragan noted that they will slowly roll out the feature to non-paying users.

However, perhaps the feature is more extensive than Barragan suggested, because when I checked, I could already make calls, even though I’m not a power user. X Have direction There’s no word on how to use the feature, but basically you go into DMs, click on the phone icon, and select audio or video calling.
I don’t actually Use this feature, though, because calling a friend via Twitter seems like a crazy idea. I don’t seem to be alone When thinking about this issue.

Frankly, this feature seems like something people just happen to use while scrolling through DMs. It’s not clear what value can be added by calling X instead of the myriad existing services. Perhaps the only possible reason I see is that you don’t need to share your phone number – but, again, other services can already do this.
So, in short, making calls on the X is now a thing for non-paying users, whether anyone actually wants it or not.
