Google is bringing back the fun of Androidify in a whole new way – it’s a fun new tool for customizing your own Android bot with tons of options to make it work exactly for you and use it to chat and post on social media etc.
Last year, Google brought back the classic Bugdroid character with a 3D transformation, ditching the 2D head logo. Now, Android users can dress it up with clothes, pick materials, add accessories, and add some props (via 9to5Google ).
The “Customize your own Android bot” tool is located on the Android homepage and offers a wealth of options. You can use 25 materials, from football to camouflage and leopard skin. When dressing up your Android mascot, you can choose from 20 costumes, including a space suit.
You also get 20 accessories, including headphones, glasses, a diving mask, and even bunny ears. Additionally, you can decorate your Android robot with one of 20 items, such as an Xbox controller or a digital camera.
Once done, click the check button in the Props tab and get the QR code for the robot or download it as your avatar. You can keep going back for the second round whenever you want to build more avatars.
That said, some users noticed the lack of rainbow color options despite the rainbow robot being shown off when the redesign was announced.
This new interactive tool brings back memories of the old Androidify app, allowing you to turn Bugdroid into your doppelgänger. It’s cool, but it was last updated in 2016 and was removed from the Google Play Store in 2020.
Google says the new robot mascot has more looks, and that’s exactly what you’ll find in this new avatar maker. It’s not quite Androidify, but think of it as having the same vibe and cleverly rebranding it for this cool web tool.
Google is launching the tool in time for next week’s Mobile World Congress (MWC), according to a blurb on the website.
