The OnePlus 12 recently launched internationally and is already discounted in the UK – with the 16/512GB model down to £900. The base model is 12/256GB, but this model is not on sale, so it costs £850. It’s well worth the £50 for 4 extra RAMs and double the storage.
The phone has received several major updates since its launch. The first master mode to be introduced, offering Hasselblad color adjustment in-camera. ProXDR support for the Google Photos application is enabled through another update. Another update introduces several AI features such as AIGC Remover to remove unwanted objects and people from photos, AI Summariser to give you a brief view of call logs, and Article Summarizer to reduce lengthy articles to short text.
The OnePlus 12R is also available, but there are no discounts yet. It costs £650, so even at RRP it’s significantly cheaper than its flagship. Genshin Impact fans may want to wait, but OnePlus will launch the 12R Genshin Impact version in the style of Qingqing on February 28.
After leaving OnePlus, Carl Bay founded Nothing. The company is gearing up to launch its first mid-range phone, and at the same time, the price of its second flagship is dropping – the £530 12/256GB Nothing Phone (2) isn’t particularly exciting (a few weeks ago (£550), but the 12/512GB model at £560 is worth a look (was £620 two weeks ago).
Samsung has several Android phones for under £200. The Galaxy A15 5G comes with the Dimensity 6100+ (more or less an updated version of the Dimensity 810). It has a 90Hz 6.5-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution. The 128GB base storage is expandable via a microSD slot. The cameras are basic but decent, with a 50MP main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide camera, and a 13MP selfie camera (video recording is capped at 1080p @ 30 fps).
Save some pounds with the 4G model. The Samsung Galaxy A15 is almost the same phone as the Samsung Galaxy A15, except for the Helio G99 chipset. Both are equipped with 5,000mAh batteries with 25W charging power.
You can also buy protective cases for Galaxy A15/A15 5G. This is an official case made of TPU and has a slot on the back for cards (credit cards, travel cards, etc.).
Cheaper than the A15s is the Samsung Galaxy A05s. This one makes a different choice – its 90Hz display is a larger 6.7-inch LCD (still with FHD+ resolution even at this price). It uses a Snapdragon 680, which makes the Helio G99 look modern as well. Still, it has expandable storage, and all three have 3.5mm headphone jacks. The batteries are the same, 5,000mAh, 25W.
These tablets don’t need much introduction. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is the largest of the series, and one of the largest modern tablets – it has a 14.6-inch 120Hz AMOLED display, paired with a bundled stylus. A USB-C port and DeX let you add a second display to your tablet. The tablet itself can act as a second screen for a Windows 10 (or later) PC. The connection is done wirelessly, and you can choose between low-latency and higher image quality modes.
The same trick applies to the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9+, and of course the 12.4-inch 120Hz display is still large enough to be useful. The Tab S9 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip for Galaxy, which has higher clock speeds than the regular 8 Gen 2 chip.
There’s also the 11-inch Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. Note that the base storage capacity of this product is 128GB, and more importantly, it only comes with 8GB RAM. The 256GB model does have 12GB like the plus and ultra models.
It’s a similar story with the Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ – the base 64GB model only has 4GB of RAM, while the 128GB model doubles that to 8GB. The tablet will get 2 OS updates (it runs Android 13 out of the box, so it will eventually get 15) and will get 4 years of security patches.
