Imagine paying $3,500 for something and suddenly it breaks through no fault of yours. This is exactly what some owners are saying is happening to their Vision Pros.
It’s been three weeks since Apple launched its first-generation VR/AR headset. Now, some car owners are taking to Reddit to report mysterious cracks that have spontaneously formed on the front glass.
The first thing discovered was mike rumor, some Reddit users claimed that cracks suddenly appeared on their devices. The photos in each report appear to show nearly identical hairline cracks at the bridge of the nose. Additionally, these Reddit users claim they didn’t do anything that would normally cause a crack to occur, like throwing it to the ground.
A Reddit user from dornbirn said they polished the front glass, put the lid back on and saw cracks the next morning. Other affected users also mentioned keeping the device covered or storing the device in its case.
The cause of these cracks is not yet known, but some believe it could be caused by an overheating issue. There is also speculation that the cracks occurred due to a design flaw that put too much pressure on the glass when the straps were tightened.
It’s unclear how common this problem is, but it could cost owners a lot of money. The cost to repair this damage is $300 with Apple Care, which jumps to $800 without Apple Care. Some users who contacted Apple said they were told they would have to pay for repairs because the issue had not yet been deemed a manufacturing defect.
