Minisforum has officially announced the launch of V3, one of the industry’s first AMD Ryzen 7 8840U-based hybrid PCs that can be used as a tablet, laptop and external monitor, which is why the company is positioning it as a ‘three-in-one’ system. Since the machine is equipped with an octa-core CPU, it may offer some mid-range laptop performance. Also, despite being a “tablet,” it has two USB4 ports and an SD card reader, a rare feature for such a device.
The Minisforum V3 is closer to a classic laptop than a tablet, but that happens all the time. The system features a 14-inch detachable multi-touch display with a resolution of 2560×1600, a brightness of 500 nits, a refresh rate of 165 Hz (which gamers will no doubt appreciate), and a stylus holder that measures 323.26× 219×9.8 mm, weight without keyboard is 946 grams. The device is made of die-cast magnesium alloy and houses all the usual sensors and features of a tablet, such as a 5MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera, a gyroscope, and a fingerprint reader.
Minisforum V3 uses AMD Ryzen 7 8840U (8C/16T, 3.30 GHz – 5.10 GHz, up to 28W), built-in Radeon 780M graphics card (768 stream processors), and is paired with up to 32 GB of LPDDR5-6400 memory and a PCIe interface Up to 2 TB M.2-2280 SSD. To ensure consistent performance under high loads, Minisforum has squeezed the cooling system into the tablet, with four copper pipes and two fans, a rare feature.
In terms of connectivity, the Minisforum V3 comes with a Wi-Fi 6E + Bluetooth 5.3 adapter, two USB4 ports, a V-Link connector (a USB-C similar to DisplayPort In), a UHS-II SD card reader, and A 3.5mm headphone jack. Thanks to the V-Link connector, Minisforum’s V3 can work as a tablet and laptop, or as a monitor for another laptop.
The Minisforum V3 comes with an integrated 50 Wh battery, which is more or less in line with what some other thin and light 14-inch laptops offer. To easily balance long battery life and optimal performance, V3 offers three power modes including Power Saving Mode (15W), Balanced Mode (18W – 22W) and High Performance Mode (28W). At the same time, Minisforum does not currently have an estimate of the actual battery life of the device.
Minisforum is expected to announce pricing for its V3 hybrid PC next month.
