(TNS) — Spokane Public Schools’ internet and phone networks experienced a system-wide outage Monday after a blustery night.
District spokesman Ryan Lancaster said the network at the district office downtown may have experienced a power surge after Sunday night’s storm. The power surge affected the entire region, knocking out phone and internet service at nearly 60 facilities in the area.
School phones were back up and running after school, while internet at some schools has not yet been restored as districts repair their networks.
Staff used hotspots and text messages to send messages to families.
Lancaster said if parents can’t make it to school during the day, they can use the “Let’s Talk” app, call the district office or visit the school in person.
Lancaster said that in schools without internet access, students are learning the “old fashioned way”: “with books and so on.”
