MediaTek has no trouble announcing a new yet somewhat familiar Helio G91 SoC, designed for entry-level 4G smartphones. The G91’s hardware is essentially the same as its Helio G88 and G85 siblings, but it offers an upgraded ISP.
All three chips mentioned above share the same CPU configuration – 2x Crotex A75 clocked at 2.0 GHz, plus 6x Cortex-A55 clocked at 1.8 GHz. All three also share the same GPU – Mali-G52 MC2, clocked at 1.0 GHz. Of course, it also uses TSMC’s 12nm manufacturing process.
However, the newer G91 now supports sensors up to 108MP, which will make the chip a top choice for manufacturers looking to assemble competitive budget solutions in 2024. Last but not least, the G91 is a newer chip that should be supported for many more years with more features.
