Honor Magic6 Pro, great camera + big battery + durability

Following the release of its flagship product Honor Magic6 Pro in China on January 11, Honor released this phone to the world at MWC in Barcelona.

Honor Magic6 Pro uses Qualcomm’s flagship SoC Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which improves CPU performance by 30% and GPU performance by 25% compared with the previous generation. Its performance is expected to be comparable to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra.

My device I comes with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage (posted on 1299 euros), with RAM options up to 16GB and storage up to 1TB.

design

The symmetrical and slim design of the Honor Magic6 Pro is inspired by luxury wearables and introduces what the company calls a “cushion” design language. It’s available in Black or Epi Green, with a stylish matte finish or a dynamic corrugated leather design. It has IP68 waterproof and dustproof performance, ensuring durability and reliability for outdoor use.

Honor Nanocrystal Shield enhances the durability of Magic6 Pro and has received SGS “Five-Star Glass Drop Resistance” certification. HONOR said the advanced material increases the crystal density by 50%, providing “ten times” stronger protection than ordinary glass.

Honor Magic6 Pro is designed to enhance users’ visual experience with a 6.8-inch full-range low-power LTPO eye-protection display. Its resolution is 2800×128011, supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut, and provides sharp and detailed visual effects. The display has an HDR peak brightness of 5,000 nits, ensuring vibrant colors and excellent visibility in bright conditions. It features a 1-120 Hz dynamic refresh rate for smooth transitions and scrolling.

The device uses 8T LTPO Display technology to optimize power consumption in Always-on Display mode, reducing power consumption by 30% compared to the previous generation. Dolby Vision certification ensures accurate color reproduction.

Cutting-edge features include dynamic dimming, customizable circadian rhythm display, natural color tones and 4320Hz PWM dimming. The display is triple TÜV certified, ensuring a user-friendly and flicker-free viewing experience. Customizable circadian rhythm display, enhanced with artificial intelligence, dynamically adjusts the user’s sleep cycle to promote a more restful experience. Natural tones dynamically adjust display colors based on the environment.

camera

Honor has made very interesting choices with the camera system this time around, with a very good main camera and a very high-resolution zoom camera (180MP). This is an out-of-the-box option, as optical zoom lenses have traditionally been the lever for higher long-distance photo performance. Honor bets on sensor cropping combined with 2.5x optical zoom to create a high-performance 5x optical zoom. We will test it later.

It’s designed to enhance zoom capabilities with optical and sensor-crop zoom (which is the whole point of having a 180MP sensor), delivering detailed images from a distance, especially in broad daylight. In low light conditions, it uses pixel binning across groups 16 pixels Improved light capture, resulting in improved image quality.

main camera

The main camera, called “Super Dynamic Falcon Camera H9000”, containing a 1/1.3 inch sensor. It provides significant dynamic range improvement, 210% greater than that of HONOR Magic5 Pro.This camera has Variable aperture between f/1.4 and f/2.0, which is rare among mobile phone cameras and helps with faster shutter speeds for sharper images.Wider f/1.4 aperture The setup should also improve low-light photography, allowing for richer, more detailed night shots.

Equipped with 50MP sensorthe camera offers a wide range of 122° field of view, making it ideal for capturing vast landscapes and large group photos.it has a f/2.0 aperturebalancing the needs of wide-angle shooting without significantly affecting the amount of light entering, ensuring that photos have sufficient brightness and detail under various lighting conditions.

Honor Magic6 Pro introduction AI improves sports photography, provides an intelligent experience by identifying the best moments to capture images at various sporting events. Its Falcon camera system uses AI motion sensing technology and algorithms trained on more than 8 million images of 10 mainstream sports to achieve accurate scene recognition and motion capture.

This technology ensures the camera can accurately recognize body movements and facial expressions, making it ideal for capturing dynamic moments in motion with exceptional clarity and precision. The device outperforms many competitors in capturing fast-paced action, even in challenging lighting conditions.

The company says users can capture fast-moving sports action, compare its capabilities to other high-end smartphones, and explore its automatic and manual capture capabilities to highlight its superior speed and image clarity.

Battery

Honor Magic6 Pro has 80W Honor wired fast charging and 66W Honor wireless fast charging. It has fast charging function and can fully charge the device in just 40 minutes using the included charger. The second-generation silicon-carbon battery is equipped with the Honor E1 power enhancement chip to enhance power management and battery performance.

The chipset integrates meter, protection and anti-counterfeiting circuitry into a compact design, delivering advanced functionality while maintaining a small form factor. Additionally, it features a custom low-temperature algorithm for optimal performance in extreme conditions, and a custom battery algorithm to improve capacity calculations and overall efficiency.
