Meizu may be exiting the smartphone business to focus on artificial intelligence, but the Geely-owned company has at least one more model to launch before bidding farewell. The Meizu 21 Pro version with a better screen, telephoto camera, larger battery, and support for wireless charging has just been officially launched.
Let’s start from the front. Meizu 21 Pro features a 6.79-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,368 x 3,192 pixels (21:9) and a peak brightness of 1,250 nits. This is an LTPO panel with a 1-120Hz refresh rate (for comparison, the vanilla 21 has a 6.55-inch FHD+ 19.5:9 display). The same goes for the 32MP selfie camera.
6.79-inch LTPO display • Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
Behind the glass is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, but that comes standard with 12GB of RAM (up from 8GB), with a 16GB version also available. In addition, the storage capacity is 256GB, 512GB, and now 1TB.
Going around to the back, the 200MP camera is gone and replaced by a 50MP main camera. To make up for the lack of zoom, we have a 72mm (3x) telephoto module with a 10MP sensor (and up to 30x digital zoom). The ultra-wide-angle camera is also 13MP 122° (15mm). There is a ToF depth sensor to improve autofocus, and the main camera can record 8K video and enjoy OIS and EIS stabilization.
50+13+10MP camera • 5,050mAh battery, supports 80W/50W charging
The 5,050mAh battery has a higher capacity (+250mAh) and supports 50W wireless charging in addition to 80W wired charging.
The Meizu 21 Pro is now available for pre-order in China via the company’s online store and will go on sale from March 2. Prices start at CNY 5,000 ($700/€640/Rs 57,500) for the base 12/256GB model. The 16/512GB model is 400 yuan more expensive, and the top-end 16GB/1TB model is priced at 5,900 yuan.
Meizu 21 Pro color matching: black·white·blue·green (artificial leather)
There are four colors to choose from – three with a glass back (black, white and blue) and one with a leatherette back (green). Note that the Pro is IP68 rated, while the regular model is only IP54 rated.
