Lansing, Mich. (WNEM) – Michigan will receive more than $45 million in grants and loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to provide high-speed internet and clean water to rural communities.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will provide $9.7 million to provide high-speed Internet to tribal and rural communities in 17 states, including Michigan. The state said $997,000 of the money will go to eight Michigan communities, some of which are in Roscommon, Ogemaw and Saginaw counties.
In addition, 11 communities in Michigan will receive $45 million to improve wastewater treatment systems and replace drinking water mains.
The village of Mayville is one of 11 communities that received a $4,501,000 loan and a $9,999,000 grant to improve the community’s aging and inefficient sewer and lagoon systems, the state said.
