- Google is preparing to redesign the Play Store’s dialog UI to make it more consistent with its Material You theme.
- After the revamp, application update and information dialog boxes have a more card-like appearance.
- The update also introduces new “Featured Stories” editing cards on certain apps’ detail pages.
Google is gearing up for a redesign of its dialog user interface, which appears at the bottom of the Play Store when scrolling.
As detailed by AssembleDebug on Telegram, the updated design is rolling out via Play Store version 39.8 (via Android Police). The patch includes a “redesigned dialog UI” and a “new edit card” in the details page when clicking on an application.
The new dialog UI box conforms to the Material You design theme that exists in the Google ecosystem. The box now has rounded corners and gray bars, and users can resize it to suit their needs. Additionally, this UI change occurs every time the application prompts the user to update it. Update prompts are a larger dialog UI variation that provide information about what’s new in the update, as well as a message highlighting the need to use the update.
There is a smaller version that only appears when the user long-presses on the app in the Play Store. It doesn’t provide much information, only detailing its price (if applicable), app name, developer studio, and other items.
The flip side of this update brings a new editing card to the details section of the app called Featured Stories. Not every app will have this feature, but clicking it for those that do will generate a page that “recommends” similar apps.
As the publication points out, users may need to manually update the Play Store to see the changes. However, version 39.7 appears to be the latest version, which means it may take some time to install the redesigned version (v39.8).Users can manually check by clicking on their Profile icon > Settings > About > Play Store Version.
In addition to the redesign, Google has also begun testing AI-generated FAQs in app detail pages. The company appears to be planning to use artificial intelligence to answer users’ most common questions. After enabling it in the store code, users appear to be able to find answers to why others like the app, what its features are, and more.
Another feature discovered during testing involves AI-based “app highlights.” These will provide users with quick information, essentially condensing what can be read in the full description box of the app. App highlights will draw attention to the app’s most notable features and the various activities one can perform within it.
