OnePlus 12R vs Samsung Galaxy S23 FE – Which smartphone is right for you? Let’s take a look!

OnePlus 12R vs. Nothing Phone 2: Design and Display

OnePlus 12R front

The OnePlus 12R and Nothing Phone 2 have very different approaches when it comes to the look and feel of the two devices. The OnePlus 12R’s chassis has subtle curves that make it easier to hold in some ways. The Nothing Phone 2, on the other hand, sports an iPhone-like square edge design. However, the subtle curve on the rear panel does keep it from digging into your hand too much. Finally, neither brand skimped on the materials used, as both phones feature aluminum mid-frames and glass backs.

Looking at the numbers, the OnePlus 12R measures 163.3 x 75.3 x 8.8 mm and weighs 207 grams. Nothing Phone 2 measures 162.1 x 76.4 x 8.6 mm and weighs 201.2 grams. Therefore, the dimensions of both devices are very similar, which is also reflected in the display size.

OnePlus 12R features a 6.78-inch FHD+ (2780 x 1264) LTPO AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz (adaptive). Its peak brightness is reported to be 1,600 nits, and can be further increased to 4,500 nits. However, we believe the latter is a marketing gimmick, as the metric comes from measuring brightness under highly controlled circumstances. The display panel is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2.

You’ll also find a 6.7-inch FHD+ (2412×1080) LTPO AMOLED display on the Nothing Phone, but the device has the appeal of unified bezels thanks to the use of a flexible panel. Regarding brightness levels, Nothing reports peak brightness of 1,000 nits and 1,600 nits when watching HDR content. The display comes with Gorilla Glass 5 cover.

If you don’t mind a slightly curved screen, the OnePlus 12R outshines the Nothing Phone 2 in both brightness and overall hardware, making it a slightly better choice. If you often find yourself around water, note that the OnePlus 12R doesn’t have an official IP rating; the Nothing Phone 2 has an IP54 rating.

OnePlus 12R vs. Nothing Phone 2: Performance

Phone 2 shows nothing

Despite being $100 cheaper, the OnePlus 12R has a newer processor than the Nothing Phone 1. The OnePlus 12R is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, while the Nothing Phone 1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. In terms of raw power, the 8 Gen 2 is better than the 8 Plus Gen 1 with its extra performance cores, and while you might think this would result in a drop in efficiency, that’s not the case.

Still, you’re unlikely to see any major differences when it comes to day-to-day performance, although the gaming experience that can push these processors might show the disparity between the two phones.

OnePlus 12R vs. Nothing Phone 2: Battery

OnePlus 12R back

The OnePlus 12R maintains a significant advantage over the Nothing Phone 2 when it comes to battery life. It comes with a 5,500 mAh battery and its performance is very similar to the impressively efficient OnePlus 12. With support for 100W charging, you’ll see the phone quickly boot up to 100% in just 30 minutes.

Instead of going for top specs, the Nothing Phone 2 takes a more balanced approach. It packs a 4,700 mAh battery and features 45W fast wired charging (can charge the phone from 0 to 100% in 55 minutes), 15W wireless charging, and 5W reverse wireless charging. These add-ons make the device more versatile than the OnePlus, so keep that in mind.

OnePlus 12R vs. Nothing Phone 2: Camera

There is nothing about the back design of Mobile Phone 2

Finally, we’ll look at the camera hardware available to buyers. On the OnePlus 12R, the primary camera is a 50MP wide-angle camera and the secondary camera is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera. There is a third 2MP macro, but we excluded it from the comparison. On the front is a 16MP shooter. On the Nothing Phone 2, you’ll find a similar setup, with a 50MP wide main camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. On the front, Nothing uses a 32MP camera.

Comparing the hardware on paper, you’ll find that the Nothing Phone 2 has an advantage over the OnePlus 12R. The latter has a higher ultrawide resolution and should produce better images for most use cases. When it comes to the main offerings, we expect the two devices to go head-to-head.

OnePlus 12R vs. Nothing Phone 2: Which one should you buy?

When it comes to choosing between the two phones, we would say that if you are looking for raw performance and ideal mobile gaming experience, OnePlus has developed a combination; when it comes to processor, battery and cooling, there is no better Good choice. The OnePlus 12R does not disappoint.

But if you’re looking for a unique experience in a well-balanced package, the Nothing Phone 2 is the phone to consider. It has all-new software and a unique lighting implementation that, if utilized well, is more than just a gimmick. It also has one of the better Android skins on the market right now (via NothingOS).
