LANCASTER — The city of Lancaster has launched free Wi-Fi service in two city parks, marking an important step toward promoting connectivity and accessibility for all residents, city officials said step.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Monday afternoon at Jane Reynolds Park to celebrate the launch of PoppyFi: free Wi-Fi powered by Poppy.
Mayor R. Rex Parris expressed enthusiasm for the initiative and emphasized its importance to community welfare.
“In an era when digital connectivity is becoming increasingly important, it is imperative that all residents have access to reliable internet service,” he said. “This effort highlights our commitment to promoting inclusivity and improving the quality of life for everyone in Lancaster.”
The integration of free Wi-Fi in Lancaster Park represents Paris’s efforts to bridge the digital divide as it responds to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Introducing public Wi-Fi in city parks helps ensure equitable access to essential resources and reaffirms Lancaster’s commitment to supporting the changing needs of residents.
Residents and visitors to Jane Reynolds Park (716 West Oldfield St.) and Vice Pierre W. Bain Park/Eastside Pool (45045 Fifth St. East) can access the internet by connecting to @PoppyFi on their smart devices.
PoppyFi will continue to roll out in more city parks next year. PoppyFi is already available in most city facilities, including City Hall.
