DMs on Instagram are about to get new changes, bridging the gap between Meta and iMessage.
Yuan announced on monday Three key changes to Instagram DMs actually look pretty good: the ability to edit messages, pin messages, change read receipts, and more with stickers.
Instagram may be developing a Snap Map scam to locate your friends
Now you can edit your message within 15 minutes of sending it to correct spelling mistakes or add some additional context or any other reason. Making edits is very similar to editing text on iMessage: just press and hold on the sent message and select “Edit” from the drop-down menu. The word “Edited” will appear above the message, but other users won’t be able to see the original message you edited. The feature is already available and you can try it anytime.
You can also pin up to three group or one-on-one chats to the top of your inbox. This is similar to your favorite contacts in iMessage. To move a chat to the top, swipe left or tap and hold on the chat. Then click “Pin”. This isn’t currently possible, but Meta says it will be available “soon.”
You can now change whether read receipts for personal chats are on or off – a feature that was rolled out a few months ago. To turn off read receipts, go to Settings & Privacy, scroll down to Messages & Story Replies, and click Show read receipts, then turn it on or off. Finally, you can save your favorite stickers to make them easier to find by pressing and holding them.
While some of these changes are just Instagram ripping off iMessage, I can’t say I’m angry.
