Beloved country star Dolly Parton teamed up with rapper Pitbull last month for a new take on her hit song “9 to 5,” but not everyone is a fan .
It’s rare that a song featuring the queen of all our gay hearts, Dolly Parton, gets a negative review, and sadly, this one possible It was a rare miss, as some fans felt the track did a disservice to the country star.
In February, Pitbull released his new album, Athletic field (Daytona 500 Edition)which features seven new songs, one of which is by Parton.
The track is called powerful femaleand features the entire chorus of “9 to 5” as well as Parton’s speech in the intro, the spoken word verse in the middle of the song, and the outro – where she gives a shout-out to Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin.
Fonda and Tomlin were Parton’s co-stars in the 1980 film 9 to 5for which Parton wrote her catchy and insightful songs about work and capitalism.
While many may think the chorus “9 to 5” on the new track is a sample of the original, Parton actually re-recorded the track with Pitbull.
Similar to the original “9 to 5,” the Pitbull collaboration tells the story of hard-working women trying their best to survive with “no men in the house/raising all the kids on their own,” but “no matter what,” they “Never “give up”.
Parton later chimed in: “Now some of us/are pitbulls/we appreciate/what you do/thank you again for shining a light/on women who work/from 9 to 5.”
However, many people weren’t enthusiastic about the collaboration, while others found it a bit strange.

Others were disappointed with the “9 to 5” collaboration due to past controversies surrounding Pitbull.
Pitbull has been criticized for the way his music depicts women, with some even arguing that his lyrics help decriminalize rape. Lyrics such as “She said she wouldn’t, but I bet she would” and “I love it when you fight back” drew particularly negative comments. Many others simply thought he was sexist.
The new remix was created to promote the Daytona 500, an annual NASCAR racing event held at Daytona International Speedway in Florida.
