U.S. internet subsidy program to run out of money in May
Washington, March 4 (Reuters) –The Federal Communications Commission said on Monday that a government broadband internet subsidy program used by 23 million U.S. households will run out of money in May and will be shut down if Congress does not act.
FCC Chairman Jessica Rosenworcel told lawmakers in a letter that April is the last month for participants to receive full subsidies, with partial subsidies expected in May. Congress previously allocated $17 billion to help low-income families and those affected by COVID-19 gain access to the Internet through $30 monthly vouchers for Internet service.
