The calendar has turned a new page and we have entered March. That means it’s time for a new season Marvel Snapshot (free) and via Disney+ X-Men ’97 With the revival launching later this month, it’s a good time to revisit one of the more popular comic book events starring Marvel’s merry mutants: Avengers vs X-Men. There’s got to be a lot of ridiculous fights between superheroes, right? At least this one should be interesting and will be available later today.
As usual, Ben Brode and his crew at Second Dinner posted a rather interesting video on their YouTube channel covering the event. I encourage you to watch it if you can, but for those of you who are busy giving commencement speeches in front of a large group of people as you read this, I’ll go into all the major details.
suitable for one Avengers vs X-Men During the event, the season ticket card this time was none other than Hope Summers. The first mutant born after Wanda whispers the fateful “no more mutants” line, she ends up attracting all the wrong attention from the usual suspects. Marvel Snapshot, Hope is a 3 cost 4 energy card with the ability to give you +1 energy the next turn after you play a card at her location. Another reliable source of energy gain? Of course, why not?
As for the release of new cards every week, let’s start with Pixie. She’s a 2 cost 1 power card, and she has the “reveal” ability, which shuffles the cost of the cards in your deck starting there. Mixing some high-performance 6-cost cards with a bunch of 0-cost cards could end up making for some exciting gameplay. Next up for the X-Men is Cannonball’s Sam Guthrie. He’s a 5-cost, 8-power card that seems like a very useful guy. He has a “reveal” ability that moves the highest powered enemy card from one location to another, if the card cannot be moved it is destroyed and replaced with a stone. Oh my god. RIP Spot.
For the Avengers, the first card is Mockingbird. She is a 5 cost 9 power card, her cost is reduced by 1 point for each card that is not in your deck. Pair her with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and other agents from other decks or figures. Behind her is War Machine, a 4-cost, 6-power card with a powerful “reveal” ability. After you’ve played him, there’s nothing stopping you from playing in any position until the end of the next round. Not Professor X, not the Holy of Holies, nothing. Roddy brought the goods.
There are also several new locations coming soon. Well, one new one and one returning one that has been completely redone. Krakoa returns in all its glory, and instead of taking over your fifth turn and ruining your game, the first card you play there adds its power to the top of your deck. Utopia, on the other hand, reduces the cost of your 3-cost and 4-cost cards by one. Not too exciting, but it works.
Add the usual variant cards and more, and here’s what the new season is about Marvel Snapshot. As always, we’ll prepare a deck guide a day or two after the new season’s balance changes. What do you think of this new season? Are there any cards you’d like to add to your collection? Do you think the Avengers lawyer in the Second Dinner video deserves an Oscar for his performance?
