Google is starting to roll out a handy new scanner for digitizing documents in its Files app.
The details are as follows: mishal rahman On the X, users have reportedly started selecting a new “Scan” button at the bottom of the Files by Google app (via 9to5Google ). Tapping the new button opens your device’s camera, which has two shooting modes: manual and “auto capture.” When the latter is selected, the application notifies the user that “Google Docs can only access images you scanned.”
Users then have the opportunity to beautify the scanned document using some editing tools such as clean, crop and rotate, and retake options.
Once saved, the scanned document will be converted to PDF and saved in the Documents tab, Rahman said.
The feature is available on different Google Pixel devices, but our internal testing shows it’s also coming to the Motorola Edge Plus 2023.

Google has launched a “Scan” button in its Files app, a month after its redesign. As 9to5 points out, the company has removed the bottom navigation bar, which previously contained the app’s “Clean, Browse, and Nearby Sharing” options.
The Files app adds a document scanner, which brings it closer to the Google Drive app. The feature, first spotted in December, suggests the company leverages Drive’s machine learning GMS Ml-Kit scanner. Previously, the technology was said to help users see quick editing tools after taking a photo.
What’s more, Google was originally said to have started rolling out the app’s new scan button last year. However, as we move into March, we actually start to see it become more prevalent.
Document Digitizer is joined by another previously mentioned document feature: Smart Search. Google says the feature scans the content of images and documents stored on a user’s device to provide search results within the app. Smart Search is said to leverage any stored image, PDF, location, object, audio and video file you have.
What’s more, the company ensures users’ safety and says that all of this happens on your device and never leaves.
