Google today released Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2 for Pixel devices. This update continues the Quarterly Platform Release (QPR) cycle, which brings improvements and bug fixes to the Android 14 platform.
While it doesn’t introduce any new features, QPR3 Beta 2 focuses on eliminating a large number of user-reported bugs. Pixel users have previously accessed the Circle to Search feature through QPR3 Beta 1.
Android 14 QPR3 Beta 2 is available for Pixel 5a, Pixel 6/6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7/7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold, Pixel Tablet, and Pixel 8/8 Pro. The official release notes mention the following fixes:
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the device to crash or restart unexpectedly.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused the device to crash or restart unexpectedly when updating apps after refreshing the device.
- Fixed an issue that caused the device to display a blank, black screen after booting from flash memory.
- Fixed an issue that caused the device to crash with a blank, black screen after switching to a secondary user.
- Fixed an issue when always-on display mode was enabled that interfered with the Double-tap to wake gesture and prevented the device from unlocking when the user attempted to unlock the device using their fingerprint.
- Fixed an issue that sometimes caused battery information to not display correctly in system settings, status bar, and lock screen.
- Fixed an issue that prevented transfers between devices as well as backup and restore jobs.
- Fixed various issues affecting system stability, performance, and camera.
As standard procedure, Google warns of some potential dangers with this release, including potential issues related to stability, battery life, or overall performance. Additionally, this beta may not be suitable for users who rely on accessibility features, and applications that rely on CTS (Compatibility Test Suite) approval or utilize the SafetyNet API may experience glitches. Google also acknowledged a known issue with the Assistant Overview widget that could display information from the wrong location.
