Apple specifies grace period for third-party app store access when leaving EU

If you’re wondering what Apple’s “gone too long” policy is for users who sideload apps and leave the EU, it’s 30 days. Apple updated its support page to clarify that there will be a 30-day grace period after which users will not be able to download apps from other app stores or receive updates for downloaded apps. You can still use third-party apps from outside the EU indefinitely, but after the 30-day grace period, software updates for these apps will not be available.

In the specific case where users leave the EU for 30 days and return to EU territory, they will again be eligible to update apps downloaded from third-party app stores. Using the new iOS 17.4 app sideloading feature requires you to be physically located in one of the 27 EU member states or one of its overseas territories.
