Internet slams ‘lazy’ teacher who uses ChatGPT to grade essays

Teachers have reportedly started using programs like ChatGPT to grade papers in schools, but the internet isn’t supportive of the idea.

Since early 2023, ChatGPT has skyrocketed in popularity among users around the world, including students of all ages.

As ChatGPT continues to become smarter, students are using the AI ​​chatbot to complete various types of assignments in class.

Now, teachers are reportedly being encouraged to use OpenAI chatbots to grade papers — but the internet isn’t supportive of the idea.

“Lazy” teacher is using ChatGPT to grade papers

In a report from Axios, they revealed that teachers have been quietly using ChatGPT to grade papers throughout 2023, but now schools are even more encouraging of its use.

“We have a lot of teachers who are using the program and are really excited about it,” Houghton Mifflin Harcourt CEO Jack Lynch told Axios.

Users on social media were quick to share their thoughts on teachers using artificial intelligence to grade papers on their pages, but many didn’t like the idea.

“A complete disaster. This exemplifies every terrible way we treat writing in schools using programs owned by big publishers/edtech companies within an AI-mediated space. It’s a production line, it’s inhumane student processing, Not education,” one user replied.

“Our future teachers are using chatgpt to write lesson plans and we couldn’t be happier,” replied another.

Many others simply said they believed teachers using AI to grade papers was “lazy” and that the lack of human feedback would be harmful to students around the world.
