Final Fantasy XVI may have more DLC in the future – just don’t bet anything on it

final fantasy 16 There’s another bit of DLC that’s not out yet, but it sounds like there may be more to come later (you shouldn’t get your hopes too high).

When Final Fantasy XVI launched last year, its lead developer wasn’t actually sure whether it would get DLC — it would depend on how it performed. Apparently, it performed well enough to warrant two rounds of expansions, the first with Echoes of the Fallen, released last December, and the second with Rising Tide, released this spring. Now, in a recent interview with Game Informer, Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida and DLC director Takeo Kujiraoka talked about the prospects for future rounds of paid content for the game.

“That’s a difficult question,” Yoshida responded. “My honest answer is, ‘I don’t know right now,’ but at the same time, the possibility is not exactly zero. I don’t want to rule out any real possibility right now. The reason is we did put a lot of effort into it […] and the time this game was created […] We’ve incorporated a lot of cutting-edge technology into this game.

“Because of that, we were able to gain a lot of experience, a lot of learning, that we can apply to our next project or title. So my honest feeling is that the team really wants to take on new challenges and move on to different projects – Maybe it’s a whole new game, maybe it’s a whole new form of entertainment. I feel like ultimately, that’s probably the best route not only for the players, but for us as well. But again, to reiterate, The possibility of more DLC content for Final Fantasy XVI is not zero.”

Whether Final Fantasy XVI gets more DLC or not, we’ll have to wait and see, but we certainly shouldn’t expect a sequel, as Yoshida has said there aren’t any plans for one. He shared his thoughts on Final Fantasy 17, but he also believes it should be made by someone else.
