The Nothing Phone (2a) was launched this week – the company’s first attempt at a mid-range phone. Nothing has not been a fashionable and value-for-money brand since its inception, which can be seen from (2a).
This mid-range phone priced at 330 euros has a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display (10-bit color) with FHD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 (IP54 dust and water resistance). It has a 50+50MP rear camera and 32MP front camera setup very similar to the higher-end phones(2).
There’s a larger 5,000mAh battery inside, with 45W charging (although there isn’t any wireless charging). The phone’s Dimensity 7200 Pro chipset beats the original phone’s (1) 778G, although not as fast as the chipset inside the phone (2). Note that an additional 4 GB of RAM and double the storage cost only 50 euros – well worth the upgrade. Additionally, you get a free pair of CMF Buds Pro (worth €50 individually) when you pick up the phone.
Currently, the 12/256GB Nothing Phone (2) is priced at 580 euros and the 512GB version at 680 euros, which is quite high compared to the price of the a model. That premium does buy you some goodies – one of which is the faster Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It supports 4K @ 60fps video recording, while Dimensity supports up to 4K @ 30fps. Additionally, the 6.7-inch display is an LTPO panel (but still has an FHD+ resolution). And there is also 15W wireless charging.
A few weeks ago we welcomed the Galaxy A25 at a slight discount (the price has since increased slightly). Its more affordable sibling, the Samsung Galaxy A15 5G, is now priced at almost 200 euros (35 euros less than the recommended retail price). The phone is powered by Dimensity 6100+, has expandable storage, and runs Android 14 out of the box. It will get 3 operating system updates and 4 years of security patches.
The 6.5-inch FHD+ AMOLED display is similar to the A25, but runs at 90Hz instead of 120Hz. The ultra-wide-angle camera has a 5MP sensor (down from 8MP), but the 50MP main camera and 13MP selfie camera are the same. The same goes for the 5,000mAh battery and 25W wired charging.
The Realme 12 Pro has been officially announced, so the Realme 11 Pro has been reduced in price, making it about 50 euros more than the Galaxy A15 5G. It has a 6.7-inch OLED display, which is a 120Hz 10-bit panel (also FHD+ resolution). The main camera has a 100MP sensor (with OIS), but no ultra-wide angle. Unlike the Galaxy, this model doesn’t have a microSD slot or a 3.5mm headphone jack. Its 5,000mAh battery comes with 67W fast charging.
There is also Realme 12 Pro+ in 12/512GB configuration. It has the same Dimensity 7050 chipset and 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display as the regular Pro, but it’s upgraded to a 200MP main camera (which still has OIS) and even an 8MP ultra-wide angle. Additionally, the selfie camera has doubled in resolution (32MP), and the 5,000mAh battery has been upgraded to 100W charging.
Returning to the sub-€200 price range, the Moto G54 comes with a 6.5-inch 120Hz IPS LCD (FHD+ resolution) as an alternative to the Galaxy A15 5G’s 6.5-inch 90Hz OLED. The camera’s 50MP camera has OIS but lacks an ultra-wide-angle lens. Additionally, the 5,000mAh battery is even slower, supporting only 15W charging.
