In celebration of Mario Day, Nintendo It’s finally confirmed when we can play Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remakes and Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD.
direct? What’s direct? Who needs one of those when you can just post a quick video sharing that a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is in the works? While this is the main announcement for Mario Day, Nintendo also provided some other confirmations. First up, the release date for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remastered has been confirmed, with you finally being able to play it on May 23rd, just a few months away. On top of that, Nintendo also announced that Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD will be available on June 27, which means you’ll have at least two months to sort through your Mario-related games.

No other details about either game have been confirmed or released yet, and this is really a “we now have a release date, don’t forget about us” kind of announcement, although Nintendo has also revealed that some of the more classic Mario Game Boy games will be coming to the Nintendo Switch online. First up is Dr. Mario, a Tetris-like game that most people probably haven’t played, and whose only relevance is that Dr. Mario is a playable character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Then there’s Mario Golf, which originally released Color on the Game Boy, the same platform as Mario Tennis. While not a massive new addition, it’s still fun.
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Remastered was announced last year, which came as a bit of a surprise to many, as the latest entry in the series had abandoned the RPG genre, and Nintendo had only announced a release date for its Super Mario RPG Remake of the same Direct. It’s a welcome surprise, though, as it’s a fan favorite and hasn’t been legally playable for a long time.
