what you need to know
- Google Wallet is adding support for merging movie tickets and boarding passes directly in emails.
- Currently it supports confirmation emails received in Gmail app.
- There are other nifty features included in the update, such as the ability to archive old passes.
Google Wallet received a new update last week that makes it easier to store movie tickets and boarding passes on the app.
In the accompanying release notes, Android developers note that users who would normally receive confirmation emails for movie tickets and boarding passes will now be automatically added to Google Wallet.
In addition to some airlines, a number of global movie chains are also believed to be consolidating, with the search giant planning to expand further. Needless to say, this feature is currently available for Gmail users on Android phones.
In the new version, flight passes will now use the DATETIME format by default so that the date and time will appear on the front of the pass when added to Google Wallet.
The latest update further brings some significant improvements to the Google Wallet app. It includes an easier way to manage passes displayed in the wallet app. Users can manually archive passes, which will be moved to the new “Archived Passes” section, formerly known as “Expired Passes.” It also works with WearOS-based smartwatches. Additionally, users can still unarchive used or expired passes to view them on the home screen.
The new update also fixes a small bug that caused the title label to not appear on the back of the corresponding card, while it always appeared on the front, known as card view.
Additionally, the latest Google Wallet release in the US includes a new beta feature. Users who normally store their loyalty cards in the app can now view their offers while shopping through Google Search and Google Shopping. Users interested in using the feature can join the pilot program by contacting their respective support staff.
Finally, Google Wallet will soon get AppLinkData definitions for card viewing, making it easier for users to access apps or websites linked to the service. If the app is not already installed on your Android device, it will further prompt you to install the app.
