LEGO is making a Mario Kart set, but the real winner is Bowser’s Express

Today is Mario Day and as part of the festivities, Lego and Nintendo Their latest collaboration was revealed yesterday: LEGO Mario Kart.

For those who don’t know, March 10th is officially Mario Day because when you abbreviate it – Mar10 – it looks like the iconic plumber’s name! Usually Nintendo shows off something on this occasion because it loves gimmicks, and it kicked off the reveal with a new look at some of its upcoming LEGO collaborations. The biggest announcement is undoubtedly that we’ll be getting a LEGO Mario Kart in 2025, although that news is definitely more of a “it’s happening” than any good looks. In its trailer, which you can see below, we do see a backlit look at the LEGO Mario Kart set, and the animatronic LEGO Mario figure does appear to be functional, but details beyond that are sparse.

It wasn’t just LEGO Mario Kart that was announced, though, with three other sets planned for release on August 1 being revealed. My favorite of the three is probably the Bowser Express train set, which is really just a train with Bowser’s head on the front, complete with Hammer Bro, some Goombas, a few Para-Biddybuds, and Boom Boom. The King Boo Haunted Mansion set was also revealed, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – this set includes a very square King Boo, a dry bone, a regular but also very square King Boo, and most importantly, a yellow Boo West baby.

Finally, there’s the Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle set, which of course features the titular Roy being part of a LEGO set for the first time, using a chain chewer to get around, and a toad.

Of course, the big Nintendo LEGO set we’re looking forward to is the Legend of Zelda series, which is rumored to be launching this year.
