Grand Finals Season 2 gets new game modes, private matches and more gadgets

finalsA first-person arena shooter will enter its second season later this week, introducing a new 5v5 game mode, more weapons, new abilities, and even private matches. This is a major update for a popular game centered around destructible environments.

The new 5v5 game mode Power Shift is probably the biggest change, with two teams of players vying for control of the platform (Very King of the Hill) to score. The platforms themselves tear apart the environment and can be shaken by objects and abilities. In this mode, players can even switch between light, medium, and heavy buildings to better compete with the enemy team.

Speaking of three different classes, Embark Studios is introducing new weapons and abilities for its light, medium, and heavy classes. There are a variety of abilities here that are sure to create new ways to interact with this destructible environment.

Players who choose the mid-level will gain access to the new Dematerialization ability, which allows you to temporarily erase walls or ceilings, allowing you to shoot through areas before closing the hole you created. Medium will also get a new stat reshaping tool that lets you turn enemy mines into chairs, or enemy turrets into tables – a great way to destroy defenses.

Heavy players were given an anti-gravity cube that could manipulate gravity so that anything inside would instantly start floating. Yes, that includes a cash box, so that makes stealing cash even more fun. Lights has a deployable gateway portal that allows you to quickly transfer between two locations. However, anyone, including enemies, can use the portal.

New weapons include the light 93R repeating submachine pistol, the medium FAMAS repeating assault rifle and the heavy KS-23 shotgun.

The theme of the second season is that the game show has been hacked by a collection of CNS hackers. A glitchy neon-style city map has been added to the game, which includes floating geometric shapes to mix up the way you parkour around the arena.

For those who want to see a more competitive side finals, Embark Studios will introduce private matches in its second season. This is especially important for LAN tournaments, or custom tournaments in general. There is also a new ranked game league system with rewards and career progression systems.

finals Season 2 will launch on PC, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 on March 14th.
