Moto G Power 5G (2024) with better cameras, Moto G brings SD 4 Gen 1 chipset

Motorola has just launched its 2024 affordable 5G phones — the Moto G Power 5G and Moto G — which will be available in the U.S. and Canada later this month or early next month.

The Motorola Moto G Power 5G (2024) increases the display size to 6.7 inches (0.2 inches more than the 2023 model), but it’s still an IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. No OLED here. Both phones come with Dolby Atmos stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The camera is a considerable improvement – the 50MP Men’s camera now has optical image stabilization (OIS), and there’s even an 8MP ultra-wide-angle (118°) that also doubles as a macro camera (the 2023 model lacks the UW module). The front camera has a 16MP sensor.

The phone is powered by the Dimensity 7020 chipset, but this is just a minor change compared to the Dimensity 930 used in last year’s G Power. On the plus side, the chip now comes with 8GB of RAM (virtual RAM can be increased by up to 8GB) and is paired with 128GB of UFS 2.2 storage.

The battery has also received a solid upgrade – the capacity remains the same at 5,000mAh, but the wired charging rate has been doubled to 30W, and Motorola even offers 15W wireless charging (a first for the Moto G series).

Moto G Power 5G will be available starting March 22 on US carriers (T-Mobile, Metro, AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon, Straight Talk, Total, Walmart Family Mobile and Visible). The new G Power will also be available in Canada from April 12th.

If you want an unlocked device, you can pick one up starting March 29 from Motorola.com, Amazon US, and Best Buy US for $300. Obviously, carriers will have their own prices and offers for the phones.

Note that both new models feature NFC connectivity, a feature missing from their 2023 counterparts. Additionally, they have launched Android 14 out of the box. While still not properly waterproof, they do retain the Moto’s waterproof design. Some units will be backed with vegan leather.

The Moto G (2024) is Motorola’s first phone to use the Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 (the 2023 model uses the Snapdragon 480+). Although this budget 5G model still only comes with 4GB of RAM (plus 4GB of additional virtual RAM), that should result in a solid performance boost. Storage is 128GB, and both phones have a microSD slot.

The display is very similar to last year, a 6.6-inch LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, but only in HD+ resolution. The camera doesn’t see much change either, with the main module housing a 50MP sensor and paired with a dedicated macro camera. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera.

The battery is also largely unchanged, with a capacity of 5,000mAh and only 18W wired charging (last year’s model was rated at 15W).

Unlocked nits will be available starting May 2 at Motorola.com, Amazon, and Best Buy for $200. The phone will also be available in Canada on May 2 (via Motorola.ca ) and will be available on local carriers later.
