- Mishaal Rahman has spotted a new feature in Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1 that could be exclusive to Pixel 9.
- An “Adaptive Touch” feature was discovered that adjusts the screen’s touch sensitivity based on environmental conditions.
- This feature may be exclusive to Pixel phones released this year.
The Pixel 9 is Google’s much-anticipated series, still months away from release. However, leaks and renders have kept us focused on what to expect, and one such piece of information comes from Mishaal Rahman.
Rahman (via Android Authority) noted that Google may eventually introduce an “adaptive touch” feature on the Pixel 9 series in order to more effectively address touch sensitivity issues. Evidence of this is found in the latest Android 14 QPR3 Beta 1, where we will likely see a new “Adaptive Touch” setting.it will be buried underneath Settings > Display > Touch sensitivity – We usually see “screen saver mode” on Pixel devices like Pixel 8 Pro.
Rahman noted that he dug into the code to discover “adaptive touch,” which when enabled “will automatically adjust to your ambient activity and screen protector.” The factors here still need to be determined, but wet fingers, a moist screen, or highly severe hot/cold conditions may be possible.
If this sounds familiar, the recent OnePlus 12 also has a similar Aqua Touch feature that you can easily use even on rainy days.
Users often use screen protectors to protect their precious screens, which can also be a problem. While the current screen saver mode facilitates screen touch, “Adaptive Touch” is said to automatically adjust touch sensitivity without having to manually enable it like the current scenario.
Rahman said the code further suggests that “adaptive touch” may first appear on this year’s Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8a, Pixel 9 series, and Pixel Fold 2. We can expect it to be a Pixel 9 exclusive feature. Like previous exclusives, Adaptive Touch may eventually make its way to older Pixel phones.
