Bernie Sanders, the Soviet Union’s evil propagandist, has done it again. This time, a senator from Vermont has introduced a bill that would drastically reduce the hours Americans work while maintaining their current income levels. The legislation cited concerns about new forms of automation currently sweeping the country, known as artificial intelligence, as impetus for the bill.
Sanders’ new Thirty-two hours work week— which could simply be called the Three-Day Weekend Act — would introduce a four-day workday in the United States, along with new overtime wage minimums to ensure companies adequately cover workers’ living expenses. In fact, the proposed law would prohibit employers from paying employees less than their current wages despite working reduced hours.

“Today, American workers are more than 400% more productive than they were in the 1940s. However, millions of Americans are working longer hours for lower wages.” Sanders said in his speech. a statement posted to his website. “That has to change. The economic gains from major advances in artificial intelligence, automation and new technologies must reach the working class, not just corporate CEOs and wealthy Wall Street shareholders.”
Concerns about the impact of new automation on workers have grown over the past year as advances in generative artificial intelligence threaten the livelihoods of workers across industries. Policymakers have paid lip service to concerns about job losses but have done little to act on them.
You can imagine how well supported Sanders’ bill is in our nation’s capital, where corporate cash flow is the driving force behind all policy decisions.in the United States Senate Hearings on the billLawmakers have made it clear they can’t comply with any legislation that would make Americans’ lives even slightly easier. Our government representatives, smiling as if they were talking to someone with a decidedly lower IQ, offered Sanders every reason why asking Americans to work less and enjoy life more is a terrible idea.
“A 32-hour work week would be catastrophic,” lamented Sen. Bill Cassidy (R., La.) in a response to Sanders’ bill. “The government should not undermine employers’ ability to keep their doors open through unreasonable and potentially unconstitutional mandates.”
Sanders Act noticed Other countries, such as France, Norway and Denmark, have seen working hours significantly reduced and have still somehow been able to avoid the collapse of their national economies. The bill has the support of most major unions in the United States, including the American Federation of Labor-Confederation of Industrial Unions (AFL-CIO).
