Google Meet’s facial retouching filters now available on desktop

There are two different filters you can choose from: Subtle and Smooth. While Google says the Subtle filter applies “very light” skin tone smoothing, under-eye brightening, and eye whitening, the Smoothing filter makes all three effects slightly more noticeable.

Judging from the GIFs provided by Google, neither option seems to change your appearance as dramatically as some filters on Snapchat. Instead, it appears to apply a lighter effect, making it look like you’re not even using a filter. You can find grooming options by selecting Apply visual effects Set up and select in Meet appearance. From there, you can switch portrait retouching Turn it on or off and select your favorite filter.

Google Meet is rolling out vertical grooming starting today, but it’s only available to paid users of the following plans: Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Starter, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Education Plus, Teaching & Learning Upgrade. Portrait retouching is also available to individual Google One and Google Workspace subscribers.

Google is a little late to the video conferencing facial filter game, as rivals like Zoom and Microsoft Teams already allow you to change your appearance, and to a greater extent.
