This time last year, my wife and I made a spontaneous decision. After weeks – more like months – of watching ticket prices for Taylor Swift’s Eras tour in Denver only to see the costs keep climbing, we realized we could do this by sending my wife and then- — 15 years old — to save money. The old daughter went to Las Vegas that weekend to watch the show live.
One month with Apple Vision Pro: Now I get it.I’m fascinated
Despite my initial skepticism about spatial computing and the barriers to buying glasses, the Apple Vision Pro remains impressive.
In fact, the total cost of two plane tickets and two Vegas concert tickets was less than two tickets to see Taylor in Denver. So, we gave my daughter a surprise and off they went. I had severe FOMO the entire time they were there.
My family also attended Taylor’s last tour, and even though I only knew the lyrics to her hits, we all laughed, danced, and sang together. This is a memory I will never forget. I would love to experience this again with my daughter, she is definitely a Swiftie.

Then, last night, Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour (Taylor’s version) was released in its entirety at three and a half hours on Disney+. Essentially, this was the same show my daughter attended in Vegas – including a surprising acoustic song she played during the show.

Instead of turning on the TV to watch the show, I opted to make some popcorn, have a drink, and watch the concert on my Apple Vision Pro. I wanted to feel like I was in the front row, part of the crowd. I want the feeling of being with my family again.
As the show started, I found myself overcome with emotion and grateful that my daughter was able to experience the show I was watching on the 100+ inch screen floating in my living room. The picture is clear and colorful. This is arguably the best content I’ve ever seen on Vision Pro.

A friend, who was also watching the concert on his Apple Vision Pro, texted me: “This is the type of entertainment [Vision Pro] I agree. It looks stunning. I switched back and forth between the AirPods Pro and the headphones’ built-in speakers, and they sounded great too. There’s depth, direction, and at times, it feels like I’m actually performing.
However, about 45 minutes later, I started feeling the same level of FOMO again. You see, while I was watching the concert in the living room, myself, my wife, and my daughter were in two rooms, watching the concert on our main TV. They laughed as they recalled songs and other personal moments. I tried to ignore them and focus on my own experiences.
I can’t share the experience
The more time Taylor and I spent together, the more I realized I was recreating this experience in the wrong way. If I really wanted to share this experience, I should sit on the couch with my family and watch the concert the old-fashioned way—on a 65-inch TV—and do my best to relive them by listening to their stories memory. So, about an hour in or so, I took my headphones off. I’m tired of being alone.
Before putting the Vision Pro away for the night, I asked my daughter if she wanted to watch a song or two on the headphones. She hadn’t used Vision Pro yet, so I had to explain to her how it worked, and after the initial experience setting it up, she started playing right where I left off.
She spent the next ten minutes or so watching the concert where, coincidentally, Taylor played her favorite song. I sat next to her and listened to her singing while complaining that the headphones were too heavy for her.

After the song ended, she took off her headphones, handed them to me, and said, “That’s so cool. It feels like you’re there. But it’s really just a giant TV.”

So, after putting the Vision Pro away, I walked into the room only to find my daughter watching Nancy Drew. I asked her if she would finish the concert with me and she said no. She had been watching it all night.
Next time she’s ready to take a trip down memory lane, I’ll be ready to watch it with her. On television, that’s it.
