Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a private lawyer and leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has reacted to the recent internet outage that has plunged some West African countries into chaos.
In his reaction, Gabby asserts that people don’t appreciate something they have that has helped their lives until they lose it and begin to feel the impact of its absence.
He said that if anyone doubts his statement, they can ask people in Nigeria, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon to confirm or deny it because they have had such experiences recently.
The private lawyer noted that access to “the Internet is blood.”
This means that once we lose access to the internet, our lives start to malfunction, just like the body malfunctions without blood.
“We never know what a good thing is until we lose it. If you have any doubts, ask Nigerians, Ghanaians, Ivorians and Cameroonians this week. As one influencer @lordcudjoe put it, access to the internet “almost Equal to blood,” he wrote on his X page, seen by GhanaWeb.
He made the statement against the backdrop of recent undersea fiber optic cable cuts, which have had a significant impact on mobile network operations since March 14, leading to widespread internet outages across the country.
The National Communications Authority (NCA) has informed the public that four submarine cables from Ghana to Europe via Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal remain out of service.
The company also said it would take about five weeks for the internet issues to be resolved and back to normal.
