Runescape has been around for a long time, so if you’re looking for a new free-to-play MMO, one of its original co-creators might be able to help you.
Earlier this week, a new developer on the Fen Research block released its first game brighter coastis a studio founded by RuneScape designer Andrew Gowers, and its development apparently took 10 years. As you can see right away in the game’s trailer, it’s similar in atmosphere to RuneScape, with an isometric perspective, though not exactly the same. The game’s description on Steam explains that it’s “an enchanting point-and-click RPG with hundreds of hours of gameplay, set in a land of magic and mystery, with tons of careers to try out, and There’s something new waiting to be discovered “around every corner”, which again sounds a lot like RuneScape.
The Steam page further explains, “As the newest member of the town guard of Hopeport, you’ll want to make a name for yourself. Soon, it’ll be a more challenging role than you bargained for, and a strange storm is brewing over the harbor. wreaked havoc. And local goblin riots.” Obviously, you’ll work your way up to one of three legendary professions: Freeze Knight, Guardian, or Hammer Mage, but there are also plenty of professions to choose from, like Fisherman, Miner, Blacksmith, and more, all of which Sounds like a pretty cold part to most people.

Apparently you won’t have to worry about tons of microtransactions either, instead there will be an “all-inclusive premium pass” that unlocks additional missions and areas that will be released within the game’s episodic narrative – which you’ll also need if you want to trade with other players. Items, or changing your name, will make it possible to use this pass, so it sounds like it will have some occasionally necessary quality-of-life features.
Brightcoast is apparently scheduled to release in the third quarter of this year, with no more specific date available, but you’ll be able to play it on PC and Mac when it launches.
