Galaxy A35 and A55 official, Xperia 1 VI, 5 VI, 10 VI RAM leaks, Week 11 review

The official reveal of the Samsung Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 was by far the biggest story of the past week. The Galaxy A55 and Galaxy A35 feature the same display – a 6.6-inch 1080×2340 pixel Super AMOLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. They also share a 5,000mAh battery with support for 25W charging and Samsung’s new Key Island design language.

However, the bezels are different, with the Galaxy A55 using metal, while the Galaxy A35 uses plastic. Galaxy A55 5G comes with Exynos 1480 SoC and AMD RDNA2-based Xclipse 530 GPU. In comparison, the Galaxy A35 uses the older 5nm Exynos 1380 used in the Galaxy A54.

The Galaxy A55 features a 50MP f/1.8 main shooter with OIS, a 12MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro camera. Galaxy A35 5G features a 50MP f/1.8 main camera, an 8MP f/2.2 fixed-focus ultra-wide-angle shooter, and a 5MP f/2.4 macro unit. Samsung has promised four years of major operating system updates and five years of security patches for the two new Galaxy A series phones. That’s two years shorter than the flagship series, but still impressive for a mid-range offering.

You can buy the Galaxy A55 in 8/128GB version for €480, with other available options including 8/256GB (€530) and 12/256GB versions. The starting price of Galaxy A35 6/128GB is 380 euros, with an intermediate version of 8/128GB, and the highest price is 450 euros for the 8/256GB version.

The RAM capacity of Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 5 VI and Xperia 10 VI has been leaked. The Xperia 1 VI Ultimate Edition will be available in 12GB or 16GB versions. The compact Xperia 5 VI only comes with 8GB, while the Xperia 10 VI will come with 6GB or 8GB.

Motorola has launched the Moto G Power 5G (2024) and Moto G (2024) – both of which are coming to the US and Canada later this month or early next month. The Motorola Moto G Power 5G (2024) increases the display size to 6.7 inches (0.2 inches more than the 2023 model), but it’s still an IPS LCD with FHD+ resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. No OLED here. The camera is a considerable improvement – the 50MP Men’s camera now has optical image stabilization (OIS), and there’s even an 8MP ultra-wide-angle (118°) that also doubles as a macro camera (the 2023 model lacks the UW module). The front camera has a 16MP sensor. The phone is powered by the Dimensity 7020 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The battery capacity is 5,000mAh, with 30W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, a first for this device.

Moto G Power 5G (2024) will be available on US carriers (T-Mobile, Metro, AT&T, US Cellular, Verizon, Straight Talk, Total, Walmart Family Mobile and Visible) starting March 22. Unlocked units are priced at $300.

Moto G (2024) is Motorola’s first phone to use Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, with 4GB RAM and 128GB storage. The display is very similar to last year, a 6.6-inch LCD with a 120Hz refresh rate, but only in HD+ resolution. The camera doesn’t see much change either, with the main module housing a 50MP sensor and paired with a dedicated macro camera. On the front is an 8MP selfie camera. The battery is also largely unchanged, with a 5000mAh capacity and 18W wired charging (last year’s model had 15W).

US carriers will be the first to offer Moto G (2024) – starting March 21, it will be offered by T-Mobile and Metro. The price to unlock is $200.

Global sales of the Galaxy S24 series exceed those of the Galaxy S23 series. Globally, Galaxy S24 series sales were 8% higher than the S23 models during the same period (January 28 to February 17). That doesn’t sound like much, but some areas saw more significant increases. Sales of the S24 phone increased 28%, driven by strong pre-orders in Western Europe, especially the UK, Germany and France. In South Korea, sales of the three flagship products increased by 22%. In the United States, the figure is 14% higher.
