Checking the Walmart and Best Buy websites, these are new laptops, not refurbished models, which makes the price of $699/$649.99 compelling. That said, you can only opt for the base model, which comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. In 2024, I’d normally be outraged by 8GB of RAM and such a small storage setup, but the price drop takes away some of the pain. These prices are even lower than the recent discount that dropped the laptop to $749.
What’s unclear is how long Apple will continue to supply new M1 Airs to Walmart (or other retailers), or if this is a short-term arrangement until existing inventory is cleared. We reached out to Apple for clarification but did not receive an immediate response.
If this is an ongoing deal, it’s huge for wedges everywhere. Even if not, at least it gives people the option of getting one before actually leaving. The M1 Air is a beloved laptop, and it warms my heart to see the wedge shape stick around a little longer.
