long story short
- Customers who purchase Nothing Phone 2a before March 19, 2024 can redeem a free one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro (valued at $200).
- This redemption also needs to be activated before April 30, 2024.
- Perplexity AI is a conversational search engine, and a Pro subscription gives access to more daily queries and AI models, such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo.
The Nothing Phone 2a is shaping up to be a great option in the budget phone segment, especially if you want a phone with a bit of personality of its own. Yes, if you compare the Nothing Phone 2a to the flagship Nothing Phone 2, you’ll notice a lot of caveats, but the price difference justifies them. If you’re looking for more reasons to buy the Nothing Phone 2a, the company is offering a one-year subscription to Perplexity Pro, but you’ll have to get it soon because it’s a limited-time offer.
Perplexity AI is an “answer engine,” another way of describing a search engine that uses natural language text. You can ask questions to the search engine and receive answers along with the source of those answers. The highlight here is the conversational approach, which remembers context rather than serving search engine-centric queries.
With Perplexity Pro, users get 600 “Pro Search” queries per day (aka conversational search), the ability to attach images and files, receive direct support, and access to AI models such as OpenAI’s GPT-4 Turbo, Anthropic’s Claude 2.1 , Perplexity’s – internal model is the Experimental 70b and Mistral’s Le Large.
As part of the Phone 2a launch, Nothing is offering a free Perplexity Pro subscription (a $200 value) to customers who purchase a Phone 2a before March 19, 2024. The fine print also states that you must wait five days after receiving the phone to activate your subscription, and the subscription must be activated before April 30, 2024.

The first truly budget phone from Nothing.
Nothing Phone 2a aims to offer all the core features and style of Nothing Phone 2 at a cheaper price.
Perplexity notes that its Pro subscription can be used on multiple devices simultaneously because your Pro account is linked to the email you use to log in to Perplexity. If you choose the Phone 2a, you’ll be able to use the Pro subscription on another computer, such as a PC.
During a recent X (formerly Twitter) Space livestream, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas mentioned that they hope to start working with Nothing soon. The next phase of their collaboration will include bringing the “assistant” to mobile phones to provide a “voice-to-voice” experience. The ultimate goal is to use AI chatbots to control the operating system itself.
