They just missed Pi Day!
The new version of the Raspberry Pi comes with updated software and some new features. Raspberry Pi 5.2 will ship with new firmware, Linux kernel 6.6.20, and will also be updated to the Chromium 122 and Firefox 123 browsers if you prefer using them. A new feature is the ability of the raspi-config program to update the onboard EEPROM of Pi 4 and above. If you tend to set and forget your RasPi devices, you’ll also be pleased to hear updates on how the micro handles headless operation and remote control via VNC. If you’re more familiar, Pi OS 5.2 displays a dialog box that provides the ability to shut down, restart, or log off on your Raspberry Pi 5 device, rather than just powering it off.
The Register did note that the amount of filling in this Pi has increased, and you should make sure your plate is big enough. While they had absolutely no issues, after installing the new operating system, they only had 800MB left on their 16GB SD card, making flash storage space very tight. Now might be a good time to buy a 32GB or larger card, just to give the controller some room to work.
