long story short
- YouTube has launched a new guideline requiring content creators to label authentic content created using artificial intelligence.
- The label will appear on the video player or extended description, depending on the sensitivity of the topic.
- This requirement does not apply to content that is unrealistic, animated, contains special effects, or uses generative artificial intelligence for production assistance.
With the widespread use of artificial intelligence, it becomes increasingly difficult to distinguish between genuine content and technologically manipulated content. To combat potential misinformation, YouTube is implementing a new policy that requires content creators to flag altered or synthesized content.
Youtube announced that creators will now be required to disclose whether photorealistic video content was produced using artificial intelligence tools. According to the new guidelines, content that uses likenesses of real people, altered footage of events and locations, or generated realistic scenes should be accompanied by an “altered or synthesized content” label to avoid misleading users.
YouTube further clarified that for highly sensitive topics, the label will be displayed prominently on the video player. This includes content on health issues, ongoing conflicts, elections, finance and more. On the other hand, for lower-impact content, the tag will appear in the extended description.
this Using artificial intelligence in the creative process As further noted in the statement, disclosure is not always required. For example, this requirement does not apply when AI is used for script development or idea generation. Additionally, certain types of changes do not require this label (such as obviously unrealistic content such as the use of fictional characters, the use of special effects, and the application of beauty filters).
YouTube currently has no specific enforcement measures in place and appears keen to get content creators to adapt to the new rules. However, YouTube warned that going forward, continued failure to comply with the new guidelines could result in video removal, account suspension, and possible demonetization among other penalties.
Furthermore, it should be noted that the new guidance does not provide leverage against existing rules. For example, content depicting real-life violence will be removed even if the creator flags it as synthetic content.
You should see the new guidelines go live on your smartphone app first, then roll out to desktop and TV soon after. Thereafter, Youtube Commit to updating their privacy policy to allow requests to remove AI-generated content that uses human faces or voices as part of their ongoing commitment Use artificial intelligence responsibly.
