long story short
- Apple has released a video ad for the iPhone 15 series, promoting the series’ 128GB base storage space.
- This is because many high-end and even some mid-range Android phones have moved to 256GB in base storage capacity.
Apple has historically lagged behind many Android phones when it comes to base storage, and the company offers 128GB of base storage in the iPhone 15 series. It’s nothing special, but the company is still bragging about it in a new video ad (pictured above).
Apple released an ad for the iPhone 15 series on YouTube (h/t: GSM Arena), and advertise the line’s internal storage. The video shows a man about to delete a photo on his iPhone when the subject in the photo starts singing, eventually preventing him from doing so.
“Plenty of storage for tons of photos. Storage for iPhone 15 starts at 128GB,” the video description reads.
128GB base storage is outdated
It’s confusing to see Apple touting 128GB of base storage in ads, since 256GB is standard on many high-end Android phones today. In fact, some budget phones also come with 256GB of storage in their base models. These devices include the POCO X6 series, Moto G Power 5G, Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus, and Moto G Stylus 5G.
There are still some major Android brands that insist on using 128GB base storage in their flagship phones, such as the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Google Pixel 8 series. But Samsung and Google aren’t bragging about this storage allocation in the first place. As far as Samsung is concerned, the base storage capacity of the S24 Plus and S24 Ultra is 256GB.
Regardless, 128GB of storage isn’t special anymore, and hasn’t been for a few years. Although you could argue that Apple is targeting older iPhone owners with only 64GB of internal storage. After all, the company just ditched 64GB base storage entirely with the 2021 iPhone 13 series.
