Tamale Central Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, on Monday, March 18, 2024, accused the Minister of Communications and Digitalization, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful Owusu-Ekuful) plagiarized while addressing the Legislature on the recent nationwide internet outage.

According to opposition MPs, there are clear indications that the minister’s statement is a verbatim copy of a similar statement by the Nigerian Ministry of Transport.

“Sir. Speaker, this House is a House of records and facts and when the minister made a statement, I retracted a similar statement from the Nigeria Communications Commission and it appeared to be word for word,” he said.

“If that’s true, then that’s a low percentage… It’s bad and that’s what it appears to be, that’s why I want to bring this submission to the House. Mr Speaker, I want you to ask them to check if that’s true, that’s It will not be tolerated,” the lawmaker added, while calling the behavior disrespectful to the House.
In a speech to Parliament on Wednesday, the minister announced progress in the government’s rollout of plans to license more satellite internet service providers to combat disruptions in internet services in the country.

She added that it would take at least five weeks to fully restore internet access due to disruptions caused by seismic activity.
