Considering things calm down a bit before release season hits at the end of March, it can be difficult to find the time to replay many older games when so much new content is being released across platforms every week. With Supergiant Games’ stunning rogue-like Hades Finally coming to mobile via Netflix, I now have an excuse to get back to one of my most played games of the past few years.when Hades Debuting on PC and Nintendo Switch, I played a lot of it and loved it.The team somehow managed to make a game that impressed me more than the classic transistor I think this is one of the best games ever made.I still don’t know which one I rank higher since they are both sublime, but Hades In terms of gameplay, this is one of the best of them all.I hope Hades It would be great on iOS, and better than I expected, but there are two minor issues I’d like to see fixed.at this Hades iOS review, I’ll also cover how it compares to all the other current platforms because I’ve played Hades Almost everything.
If you are new to Hadeswhich is significantly different from Supergiant Games’ latest release: transistor and woodpile. Hades is an action roguelike that manages to perfectly blend its excellent narrative, characters, and progression with a gameplay loop that leaves you craving for more. All this is complemented by its stunning visuals and exciting music. You might think I’m exaggerating about the music, but this is easily the best game audio work Supergiant Games has ever done, and a game worth studying for years to see how it handles narrative, music, and voice acting.
The core gameplay is Hades is one of the best modern examples of “one more time.” It never gets old as you slowly progress through the levels, getting further into the game, defeating new bosses, meeting more NPCs, gaining permanent upgrades and learning. You will understand more as you learn the ins and outs of surviving in dangerous levels. World and narrative.
When it comes to roguelikes, you can have the most diverse enemies, bosses, and the best visuals, but what determines Hades What sets it apart from other games in the genre is its smooth, fast-paced dungeon crawling gameplay. Weapons, upgrades, strategizing on your journey to build your character, and more all influence how far you can go.
Most games of this type have enough narrative or story to get the job done. Hades But this isn’t just any game. Supergiant Games always goes above and beyond in everything, and we see this in the way the narrative unfolds, the character interactions, and the voice acting. Hades It’s a once-in-a-lifetime gaming experience, now also available on mobile devices.
I have zero complaints about the actual game on PC and modern consoles, and basically think it’s perfect. It even has an assist mode that gives you a slight health boost with each death, making it easier to progress over multiple runs. But how does it feel and look on mobile devices? I know the team mentioned things like 60fps gameplay, customizable controls, controller support, and an uncompromising experience, but I needed to see it for myself.
Hades It’s basically perfect on iOS. I say mainly because there are two things holding it back, but one of them probably won’t matter to most players. No matter what your iOS device is, Hades Being a 16:9 aspect ratio game, while this isn’t a huge issue, I wish the team had added some artwork to each side so the black bars wouldn’t appear. Beyond that, I was surprised to find that the customizable controls don’t let you move the buttons around outside of 16:9 gameplay. I wish there were controls on each side so the actual gameplay wouldn’t be so confusing. You can move buttons around the 16:9 game window and use floating or fixed joysticks to resize them for movement.
I know Hades Using a controller would be great, but I’m specifically focused on playing it using touch controls. As with many of the games I cover, I find myself enjoying touch gaming on the iPhone but preferring the wireless physical controllers on the iPad. I tested using the Xbox Series X Wireless Controller and 8BitDo, both of which worked well. The game will display Xbox button prompts for both. With touch capabilities, I was surprised at how good the touch experience was on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Plus. I recommend resizing the interaction buttons as the default values are a bit too small.
Visually, Hades It looks beautiful and runs perfectly on the iPhone 15 Pro. On my iPad Pro (2020), visuals suffer, but performance is fine. I wasn’t able to test on an older iPad for this review. I know the team is prioritizing 60fps even on PS5 and Xbox Series X, but I’d like to see more frame rate options on modern iOS devices.
Hades There is indeed a cloud save feature on Netflix, I tested it over 12 times while playing the game back and forth Hades On my iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus and iPad Pro. I only had one issue where a save conflict popup appeared, which I resolved by selecting the correct data. Other than that, the sync works flawlessly. I’m disappointed that I can’t sync my Steam and Switch saves over, since I sync them on both platforms. Hopefully this will be considered in the future.
The screenshots below show how the game’s controller mapping works, as well as God Mode, which you can enable if you get stuck. Not only is this a cheat to make the game easier, but it also lessens the penalty of each death. The God Mode icon is the second icon from the left.
Since debuting on PC and Switch, Hades I replayed both games on PS5 and Xbox consoles.I’ve never removed the game from any platform, but the launch of the Steam Deck has allowed me to find my new favorite version Hades.look Hades The game on Switch isn’t perfect, struggling to hit the 60fps target in many areas, and it doesn’t look stunning when docked. It’s a great handheld experience and the perfect companion to the PC version with cross-save functionality. on the steam deck, Hades It works perfectly, and when I use the Dock on a 144hz monitor, it even supports higher frame rates. Now it’s looking best on Steam Deck OLED, whose vibrant screen delivers gorgeous visuals at 90 fps.
to that moment Hades On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it has 4K 60fps support and a decent DualSense implementation. On Xbox, it supports quick restore and syncs saves with the Windows version (non-Steam), which is a good option for those using the store.I ended up playing a lot Hades Quick Resume is supported on Xbox Series X. None of their cross-saves with Switch or Steam disappoint.
My favorite version so far is Hades Released on Steam Deck OLED, followed by an iOS version on newer iOS devices. The best portable version is the Steam Deck OLED, with higher resolution and flawless 90fps support. I’ll definitely be reviewing the iOS version over the Switch port because it looks and runs so well. But in the end, Hades Regardless of your platform, it’s basically a must-have. I hope this section helps people with multiple platforms decide which version they should get.
As with other Netflix or Apple Arcade game reviews, an important caveat with this recommendation is that you need an active subscription to play the game in question. Just like the GTA trilogy, Hades is a killer app for Netflix that will likely push people to subscribe to the service.
Hades It’s incredible on iOS. While there are two things about it that I wish were fixed in an update, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone with a Netflix subscription.wait Hades It’s been a long time coming on mobile devices, but Supergiant Games has delivered an excellent version of one of its best games in years, and it’s made without compromise on iOS.
