U.S. plans to ban 4 more Chinese chipmakers linked to Huawei

The battle between the United States and Huawei continues, with the Biden administration considering blacklisting four more Chinese chipmakers with ties to the tech giant.

According to sources citing BloombergThese companies are Qingdao Sien, SwaySure, Shenzhen Pengsheng Technology, and China’s leading memory chip manufacturer Changxin Memory Technology (CXMT).

All of these companies may be added to the U.S. Entity List, meaning U.S. companies that want to do business with them will need special permission to do so. In addition to all these manufacturers that actually make the chips, two companies may be added that act as agents to help Huawei obtain restricted equipment used to make 5G modems and technology, the sources said.

There have been previous reports that the Chinese government is investing heavily in Huawei to become a chip giant that can compete with giants such as Intel and Qualcomm. The Chinese company used its own 7nm FinFET process to manufacture the Kirin 9000S chip in three years, rather than five years as some US experts predicted.
