long story short
- Epic has announced that it will launch the Epic Games Store on Android and iOS.
- It’s unclear when the launch will take place.
- Epic’s revenue share may undercut the Google Play Store’s revenue share.
Due to Epic’s various disputes with Apple, we’re fully aware of the game publisher’s intention to launch a store on iOS. But iOS isn’t the only place you can find the Epic Games Store. The Epic Market will also bring Fortnite and other games to Android in the near future.
in a Post on X (formerly known as Twitter), the Epic Games Store account preview will be released on iOS and Android. Unfortunately, the post doesn’t detail when the store will hit these platforms.
In addition to stating that the store is coming to iOS and Android soon, the post adds:
On a truly multi-platform store, all developers enjoy the same fair terms – delivering great games for everyone.
If you look at the revenue share of the desktop version of the Epic Games Store, developers get a whopping 88% of the revenue, while the remaining 12% goes to Epic. When the post says “same fair terms,” it’s most likely referring to the same deal that exists on the mobile version of the store.
If so, that would be a big deal since Google charges a 15% annual fee on the first $1 million a developer makes. Once that threshold is reached, the fee will rise to 30%.
